Tough Bumps to Nanaimo

As the business end of the season is upon us, the Brentwood rugby boys are gearing toward our playoff game against Shawnigan next Tuesday, but before that we have been preparing our minds and bodies for a vigorous game against Nanaimo District Secondary School.  The team we sent to face the Nanaimo A’s was the Mighty B’s which consisted of ten Grade 10s, nine Grade 9s, and a Grade 8.  The boys had a hour long bus ride up to Nanaimo after a long day at school but we hung in there thanks to the roaring music in the back of the bus. We arrived at the pitch with our heads held high and were ready to fight the battle; NDSS, however, scored some early tries which rattled the minds of the Brentwood boys.  We also had some unfortunate penalties which led to more tries (and some frustration) yet the Brentwood boys did not give up. We tightened our defence and made some great runs down the pitch, almost leading to a try. By half we had all taken a beating from some of Nanaimo’s larger players and were not enthusiastic about another half, but we did not give up.  We kept up our hard work on offence which lead to a tremendous try by Alula H, Rogers ‘19. Mr. Smith was very proud of the way we played and said so. To sweeten the day, the boys received Timbits after their backbreaking work on the field and had a boisterous bus ride home.  The Brentwood A’s are looking forward to next week and another good game against Shawnigan.
