Spring in the Big Apple - Start Spreading the News!
In the wee hours of Thursday, February 10th, when most Brentwood students were ready for a relaxing midterm holiday after an exhausting exam, 28 art students left for the Empire State and New York City. Led by Mrs. Quinton, Mrs. Day Reynolds, Mr. Armitage and a few parents who were also interested in exploring the city that never sleeps, we were off.
We all had an opportunity to appreciate this famous metropolis for five days, enjoying the famous Broadway musicals and the overwhelming buildings. We were impressed by the fabulous performance of one of the most famous Broadway shows, “Memphis,” and the great music. We also had a chance to watch the new and exciting show “Spiderman – Turn Off the Dark”. And let’s not forget “The Lion King” which has been performed for over 10 years. Our performing art students were inspired by the wonderful music of all the fantastic shows.
We also had a chance to learn one of the dances from “Memphis” taught by an experienced Broadway dancer who performed in the show. We then had a wonderful art tour of Chelsea, a cultural hotbed in Manhattan. A great time was also had visiting 5th Avenue, Soho, Central Park, and Times Square.
The trip ended with ice-skating at the Rockefeller Centre after a farewell dinner at BB King’s Blues Club and Grill. “The New York trip was an excellent opportunity for me to enjoy this great city. I was really impressed by the Broadway performances, the streets and the skyscrapers” said Chan S P, a fellow traveler. “I like the way that people perform on the streets and have their own style of life”.
The collection of students, parents and teachers lucky enough to go to New York had experiences that they will never forget. Highlights included break-dancers on the Subway, dance and acting classes, a backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall where we met a beautiful Rockette dancer, and Grad dress shopping in Saks Fifth Avenue! The students behaved responsibly and embraced all our new experiences with "gusto” said Mrs. Quinton, the leader of the New York trip.
Come on, come through, New York.
