Senior Girls Capture Gulf Island Gold
The Senior Girls Basketball team began their season with a league win over Shawnigan Lake School (45-34) last week. Although our squad is small in numbers with only seven players, the girls never gave up. With many offensive threats, the team was able to move the ball around quickly and we had many players score multiple baskets. Top scorer of the game was Ailish T with 14 points followed by Spencer M pouring in 10 points. We will face Shawnigan again at their tournament on January 21st.
This past weekend the team also participated in the Gulf Islands Tournament. Our first opponent was a tough Mark Isfeld, but BCS came ready to play. We moved the ball well, ran the court and played tough defence winning 62-43. Player of the game honours went to Ailish T who had 19 points while Emily H contributed 14. Their second match was against AAA Stelly’s. Although the girls were tired (this was their second game of the day) they came out strong and won 45-35. Spencer M was named player of the game with 10 points while Ailish T and Madlen A contributed 12 and 13 points respectively.
The team faced GISS on their home court in the final. We knew we would have to be on top of our game to win. After falling behind early, the girls rallied back and were ahead by one point at half. Tough defence and quick feet were crucial against the quick GISS squad, and in the second half BCS built on their lead and won 43-38, earning the gold medal. Player of the game honours went to Madlen A with 17 points; Spencer M added 12. The Most Outstanding Player award for the tournament went to Madlen A. All of the coaches congratulate the girls on a terrific tournament.
