With Brentwood being a tripartite school, students are given the opportunity to try lots of different things. Within this range of opportunities is rowing: Brentwood has a long and accomplished tradition of crew which is offered to varsity rowers and learn to row participants on sports days. On top off those options, rowing is also offered to everyone on arts days: these opportunities allows students at all skill levels to enjoy the sport.  With all these opportunities for students to get on the water, Brentwood needs the best coaching staff to shape into the best crews. Adding three new coaches to the coaching ranks this year means we have the skill and expertise of Mrs. Coy, Mr. Braithwaite and Mrs. Tarrant. Each of these coaches have a strong background in rowing.  This is Mrs. Coy’s first year at Brentwood. She was a varsity coxswain at UVIC in the 1980s where she was lucky enough to be coached by Mr. Brian Carr. Ms. Coy has coached for many years and loves helping rowers to reach their full potential. Having coxed herself, she always works hard to coach her coxswains. She previously was a coach and teacher at Shawnigan Lake School. Mr. Braithwaite is one of the Senior Men's coaches here at Brentwood. Before coming to Brentwood in September he rowed competitively for over 10 years, starting in Grade 11 at the Maple Bay Rowing Club, about 25km up the coast from Brentwood. After high school he rowed for and Captained the University of Toronto team, earning the title of Canadian University Oarsman of the Year in 2009. Mr. Braithwaite then went on to compete internationally at the Under-23 and Senior World Championships, Pan Am Games, and Olympics in 2012. He retired from rowing nearly two years ago and is happy to be back involved with the sport so close to where he took his first strokes thirteen years ago. Mrs. Tarrant was introduced to the sport in  high school during her Grade 10 year. In 2012 she was part of the gold medal crew at CanAmEx. Ms. Tarrant received a full rowing scholarship to Washington State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, minoring in Sport Management with an emphasis in Kinesiology. We are very fortunate to have her here at Brentwood to coach the Women's teams - and the Grade 8s in their physical education program.  With these three new coaches Brentwood is very lucky to have such an experienced, skilled and dedicated coaching staff. We are excited that they have joined the team and we are very excited to see the contributions they make to the BCRC.  Emma H, Allard ‘18
