Junior Colts Rugby 1

Mr Smith, Mr Fisher, and I could not have been more pleased with the infectious enthusiasm exhibited by our Junior Colts this fall. Although many were very new to the game, they all dove into the experience with gusto despite the mitigations limiting us. Without the pressure of preparing the boys for contact situations, scrums, and lineouts, we were better able to focus on handling and decision-making, which paid great dividends when the boys joined in the other rugby programs for our Saturday tournaments.

As the season progressed, we graduated from pool noodle touch games to flag rugby, further developing our evasive running skills and defensive teamwork. By the end of the season, our lads didn’t look out of place with the seniors: there were some fantastic runs made by Norbert M. With his tremendous pace and uncanny elusiveness, Norbert was able to turn almost anything into a scoring opportunity, thus earning himself the Dale Bannerman Award as Grade 9 Player of the year.

Unfortunately, we were unable to test ourselves against our traditional fall rugby rivals. Still, the foundation laid this fall will undoubtedly lead to success when we can once again face our opponents on the pitch. From the ruthless defending of Lauchlin M, the evasive footwork of Thomas F, and the terrifying runs of Alexander F, Brentwood’s rugby future looks bright.
