The Junior Boys Basketball team came into their season with big shoes to fill - last year’s squad won provincials - as we travelled down to Lambrick Park this past weekend with high hopes of capturing gold in the opening tournament. The new-look junior team started their season off with a 54-43 victory over the host team in the opening game.

They then faced off against Vanier in the second match. Brentwood got off to an early lead showing no sign of fatigue. They were able to maintain this lead throughout the game and walked away with an impressive 15 point victory moving on to the semi-finals.

Their next opponent was the highly ranked Claremont Secondary School. This was a hard-fought battle, with both teams trading leads throughout the game. It was an exciting match and came right down to the wire. Brentwood had the lead in the dying seconds, when the Claremont center grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it in with 2 seconds remaining, ultimately winning the game. This was a tough loss for the team, but they kept their heads held high knowing they still had one game remaining and a shot at third place.

Awaiting them in the bronze medal game was Isfield. The boys were determined to win after falling by one point in the previous match. So they started off strong, running the floor and knocking down shots. They fought hard and played really well throughout the entire game. Led by Jeff M, Ian G, Konrad K, and Grant D,

the boys finished third and took home their bronze medals. Even though Brentwood didn’t end up winning it all, they still played very well and started their season off with a 3-1 record. The junior boys basketball team, coached by Mr. Sullivan and Mrs. Napier, look to continue to improve throughout the year and hopefully have another exciting and successful season.
