It's Great in Grade 8

Despite the fact that this is only the second year of the Grade 8 Programme, one would think that we have been around a great deal longer. Such is the mark that the Grade 8s have left on the entire Brentwood community this year. Experiential learning is at the heart of our Grade 8 experience, and we started off the year fully embracing this concept.  We began our journey on the high seas with a four-day SALTS sailing trip adventure. There was no time to miss their landlubber life as the 8s were thrown into the running of the ship. From raising the sails to swabbing the decks, they did it all. After this intensive experience, bonds were created, and we were ready to start off our academic journey on a positive note. Through the fall, the 8s had the opportunity to run the Student Vote for the school, spelunk their way through Horne Lake Caves, educate the community on different faiths of the world in the Night of the Notables event, and sing and dance their way through a production of Seussical, The Musical. The colder winter months had us indoors with preparations for our Destination Imagination competition and solidifying friendships with our Khowhemun Kindergarten reading buddies. Spring brought us outdoors again as boat holders for the Brentwood Regatta, swinging through the trees at Wildplay, and camping and biking up at Skutz Falls. During all three terms, in conjunction with all the fun we seemed to have, we also managed to get down to the business of school. Important skills were practiced such as time management, organization, self-advocacy, assessment preparation, and mindfulness training. In addition, supporting the tri-partite philosophy of the school, sports teams and fine arts groups were buoyed along by our young Grade 8 participants. Much thanks goes out to all the teachers and staff who supported this band of happy souls. The biggest thanks, however, goes to the students themselves who made this journey so fabulous. Mrs. Patel
