Feeling Bullish about Whittall House Lifers

14 July 2016

Getting through four years of Brentwood with the motley crew of Whittall Lifers has been quite the experience ranging from joyful to shocking and everything in-between. I have had the privilege of watching everybody grow and change from annoying Grade 9 boys into mature-ish, young men. I can still remember back to the days of undue angst and complaining about non-existent workloads from teachers that we thought were “awful.”  If I look back, I can see Conner Crabtree and his incredible afro out and about with Katlan as a slightly smaller Mohit Dhir puts on obscene amounts of cologne as he overdresses for every occasion.  Just down the hallway is Victor, quietly keeping to himself in his room, his roommate, Joe, perpetually out taking pictures of the sunset. And finally I can see Jacob giggling away to himself as he discovers new ways in which he can simulate explosions on his laptop. Meanwhile, of course, I am testing the patience of the much larger Grade 12s.  And we can’t forget about the big man himself: Mr. Gage perpetually shaking his head at our ridiculous antics. And now that I think about it, not much has changed except that Jacob can now apply his knowledge in chemistry to make actual explosions and Conner seems to have a much longer-lasting relationship this time around. We have definitely gained some interesting characters and lost some others, which has added spice to the experience over the years, but the core of Whittall remains the six of us who have been here since the beginning.  Now I look at these boys and see up-and-coming gentlemen thriving and getting ready to shed the shackles of Brentwood and head off to various different post-secondary pursuits. We will all be going our separate ways come the end of this month but I am sure that the boys of Whittall will always welcome each other with open arms. Thank you Mr. Gage, Mr. Amiel, and finally, thank you for the incredible journey, boys. I can’t wait to see how far you will all go in your lives but I know you will look back our time together fondly.  Remember boys, you mess with the bull, you get the horns.
