On Tuesday, May 16, the Brentwood Girls Rugby team engaged in their final home game before the BC Provincials Championship in Abbotsford. As expected, the team more than held its own against Francis Kelsey, defeating our neighbours 57-7. A true testament to our progression as a team, Brentwood improved with fewer turnovers, and more focus, drive and intensity.  Defensively, our athletes have learned to stand their ground aggressively, making a lot of steals from the opposing team. In fact, the game commenced with the girls scoring try after try and losing their streak only during the final ten minutes of the game. Clearly, from the start to the very last minutes of the game, the team showed great tenacity in its refusal to relax or slow down and with three minutes left in the game, we scored another try. Despite being a relatively young team, these athletes have proven “it is not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit”. Needless to say, the girls have genuinely outdone themselves. Coming a long way since term one when most players were mere novices to the sport, they’ve bonded and banded together to form a team that should not be underestimated. Nevertheless, we still have a lot of work to do, as improvement is a never-ending story. Throughout the year, the motto for the team has been to “Get better!” and through continuous critical analysis of past mistakes and successes, we’ve accomplished much more than that. This is just the beginning of future successes! Good Luck Brentwood! Imisi A, Rugby Captain, Allard ‘17
