Carpe Argillum: Seize the Clay!

1 October 2016

Arts are back in full swing at Brentwood and therefore the pottery studio is back up and spinning again! Ceramics is as full as ever with more than 80 students in the program who are able to produce whatever their inner artist desires, shaped in clay. In the studio, students are able to put their ideas to life, shaping bowls, plates, sculptures and vases with their bare hands. From simple hand-built artworks to creating incredible works on the pottery wheel, students of this art are able to appreciate the use of their hands to create 3D artwork different than any other art class on campus. Headed by longtime instructor Ms Elmes and pottery Captain Kieran M-H, Rogers 17’, the ceramics program is an incredible way to learn an amazing skill, as well as get involved with Brentwood and surrounding community. Every year the program participates in the Super Bowls of Hope charity event, as well as creating artworks that correspond with the Brentwood musical and have them displayed in the Bunch Theatre lobby during musical week.  So next arts afternoon when you have a few free minutes, come on down to the studio (waterside with a view of Mill Bay) and check out the incredible pots that the students of ceramics are creating!
