In 1971 we hosted our inaugural Brentwood Regatta with Claremont of Victoria and Lakeside of Seattle. In 2015 the Salt Spring Island Rowing Club held its first ever regatta. It was a tremendous success. Crews from Nanaimo, Victoria City Rowing Club, Gorge Narrows Rowing Club, Maple Bay Rowing Club, and four athletes from Brentwood competed in this first time event.  Oliver W and Aidan W won the 5 km head race in the morning in the Jr. B double, as did Alex R and Ellis H in the Jr. A men's double.  With an interesting handicapped system for the afternoon 500 meter sprint competition, Oliver and Aidan came out on top of the doubles competition and were crowned "Grand Champions." Elsewhere around the world, Lion T, Privett ‘17 is racing in the 'B' Final of the Under 17 single at the German National Championships. He was hoping for the 'A' final, however, he came 4th in the A/B semi final. When I spoke with him after the semi, he was hoping to be at the top of the B final so that the German selectors will consider him for the German Under 17 team later this summer.  Martin Barakso, Whittall ‘12 and his Princeton Varsity Men's 8+ will race against the US National Champion crew from the University of Washington in the first round of the Ladies’ Plate at the Henley Royal Regatta in England tomorrow. After Henley, Martin will be flying back to Canada to meet up with the senior team to prepare for the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games. Brendan Hodge, Whittall ‘03, bow seat of Canada's Senior Lightweight Men's straight four, raced at the Holland Beker Regatta in Rotterdam, Netherlands this past weekend. Narrowly missing the 'A' final in the Open 4-, they raced in the Lightweight 'A' final on Sunday. Brendan will be heading back to Canada to also prepare for the Pan Ams. Mr. Brian Carr
