46 years ago Brentwood College School decided that perhaps a nice way to spend a sunny spring day would be an afternoon of races with some of neighbouring schools. Over the past 46 years the Brentwood International Rowing Regatta has evolved from a few hours of boat races to three full days of racing, topping out at almost 200 races, with clubs and high schools from across the Pacific Northwest: BC, Washington, and Oregon. The Regatta includes live music along with crowds of up to 5000 spectators and athletes on campus.  On Friday the Brentwood Junior B Boys started off their first race in their 8+ earning 3rd place in their heat which placed them in the finals the next morning. The race had a slow start but through the intense calls of our coxswain, Emma H, Allard ‘18 and the intense rating of stroke seat Oliver W, Privett ‘18, the boys pulled themselves back into position granting them a second chance the next day.  Later that day the bow four of the eight (Benett L, Privett ‘18, Ethan C, Privett ‘18, Luka E, Rogers ‘18 & Liam C, Rogers ‘18) were scheduled in a coxed quad race at 6:10pm. The race, however, was moved to early the next morning due to heavy winds that even resulted in boats sinking. The race was rescheduled to 6:10am the next morning. The bow four got up bright and early thirsty for a victory. As they proceeded to the dock the boys were focused and ready for whatever lay in front of them. On the way to the starting dock the four boys were completely silent, the only sound was that of the coxswain, Emma, and the oars slicing through the water.  The boys destroyed the competitors and placed first in their heat. The bow four had a quick rest before they had to go race the final at 5:39pm. The boat was extremely tired having raced two races that day so they did not do their best. They finished 4th, but had a great experience.    At 9:36am, shortly after the Jr. B 4x+ finished their race, the four met up with the rest of their crew. Coxswain Emma yelled “Hands on! Ready up! Split” and the boys were off on their 8+ final against St. George’s, Vancouver College, Green Lake and Pocock. 200 stokes later and the boys placed 4th. Though these were not the best results from our crew, it was the “beginning of your new life” as observed by Brentwood rowing legend, Mr. Carr Sr., the following day before training.  Next is Shawnigan. We’ll be ready. Benett L, Privett ‘18 & Ayden A, Whittall ‘18
