A Concert for A Winter’s Eve
Thursday night, following the scrumptious American Thanksgiving feast put on by the staff of Crooks Hall, and on Friday as well, Brentwood hosted its annual Concert for a Winter’s Eve as a benefit for the local Food Bank. Hosted by the Sugar Plum Fairy, alias Mrs. Widenmaier, the night exhibited some of Brentwood’s finest musical talents. A sizzling start with the Vocal Jazz Ensemble featuring solos by Alex M, Alexa M and Aidan C set a high standard for the evening. Whether it was the virtuoso piano performance of Beatrice F or the several vocal numbers that showcased the voices of Shannon W, Paige M, Sedef A and Hannah W, the audience response was very appreciative. Act One also showcased the Advanced Rock Band and the Jazz Band, something for everyone’s taste. Rounding up the Act, the Concert Choir sang three numbers with great style.
After a short intermission, the Pops Orchestra took command of the stage with their large sound. Their John Williams Medley was very popular with the audience. As with Act One, the performances were a blend of vocal numbers with instrumental groups. Kudos to Min K, Dan H, Maggie D, Davin K, Kira C and Alexandra D for their great singing, and to Vicky C who enchanted us with her Chopin Polonaise on the grand piano. The Christmas Song played by members of the Jazz Band put the audience in the season’s spirit, readying them for the Finale number, an African Traditional Song , played by the Pops and sung by the Concert Choir. It was a real crowd pleaser to end the show.
