The Brentwood campus offers a range of Student Services to support students in their home away from home. Student services include a Health Centre, Health and Wellness Office, Campus Store, Travel Office, Laundry Facility and the School Dining Room. Students also have access to mail, telephone, email, Skype and social media on our wireless campus.
Art and Mary Jane Crooks Hall
The Art and Mary Jane Crooks Hall is the hub of our campus. This building is home to the dining facilities, the school store, the laundry services, the business classrooms, and the student centre. Crooks Hall is also a leading example of Brentwood's commitment to environmental sustainability. Built with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold standards and featuring a geothermal system linked with the ocean, a grey water recovery system and automatic lighting controls, ‘the Crooks’ has few rivals.
Food Services
At Brentwood we recognize the importance of good nutrition and how it impacts intellectual performance, physical wellbeing, and the overall quality of life. The Food Services department under the stewardship of Renee Wilson, Food Services Manager, and Sean Napier, Executive Chef, has changed significantly in recent years. With a dedicated staff of twenty-five, Food Services continues to offer a variety of delicious meals each day while at the same time addressing the needs of students and staff who may have special nutritional requirements.
Maeda Health Centre
The Maeda Health Centre, opened in 2001, houses consultation, counselling, examination and treatment rooms, and separate male and female accommodation for the observation and care of students who are unwell. Head Nurse, Donna Decker, R.N., leads an experienced team of nurses and is a reassuring, caring figure for students and parents alike. Our school doctor holds regular clinics at the Health Centre, and is available each day in the Mill Bay Medical Centre.
Health Centre
Emergency services are provided through the Mill Bay Medical Centre and Cowichan District Hospital. A physiotherapist visits the school twice weekly. The Head Nurse arranges appointments to external specialists, including dentists, orthodontists, and counsellors. Students may raise any health related or personal issue at any time in confidence by speaking to the Head Nurse, the Health and Wellness Counsellor, any of the nurses, the doctor, or any member of the faculty.
Campus Store
The Campus Store stocks a wide selection of toiletries, stationery, and school supplies for students' programmes in academics, arts, and athletics. The Campus Store also carries all school uniform items and required clothing for sports. All items sold in the store may be charged to parents' accounts. At the beginning of the academic year, during 'Orientation', the store staff help new students with the selection and fitting of uniforms, sports and house clothing, as well as helping them with items they may need for the beginning of the year.
Laundry
Regular laundry service is provided to all boarders. Each house is assigned a laundry day, and the laundry ladies, including the seamstress, are always willing to assist students in the care of their clothing. Dry cleaning, major repairs and alterations of clothing may be arranged through the Laundry Department. The ladies who work in this department have a special spot in the students' hearts and a number of alumni return each year to visit their 'moms away from home.'
Travel Office
Our school travel coordinator arranges each student's reservations for air, bus, and ferry transportation, including drop-off and pick-up at local terminals, and appropriate chaperoning. Parents can work directly with Diane Southern in the Travel office when organizing student travel to and from the school.
