When visiting the Brentwood College campus you will immediately be struck with our Unique Setting on the ocean. All eight boarding houses overlook the spectacular Saanich Peninsula, each providing easy access to all of the arts, sports and academic facilities. Brentwood, by design, has a 21st century, modern approach to traditional boarding.

Boarding: the Heart of Brentwood

At Brentwood we cherish our philosophy that the experience each student has in the boarding house is fundamental to the success of our school.  Each house is considered a ‘home away from home’ for our students and the mentoring, guidance, peer relationships and bonding that the boarding experience provides is unique in its scope and breadth. The facilities are modern and comfortable; each house has common room spaces, kitchen areas, Skype accessibility, televisions and DVD players as well as areas for socializing.

House Traditions

Each house has its own unique traditions.  Students become immensely proud of their house and the relationships developed within the boarding environment are lasting and life changing. Social events within the house occur weekly.  Whether it is the 'Big Brothers and Big Sisters' evenings each week, dinner and movie outings to Victoria, Open Houses, or the house camping and shopping trips, the boarding houses are the heart of our campus.

House Leadership

Leadership opportunities abound within our boarding community. Most senior students hold some kind of mentoring and leadership role in the house. The House Captain and Assistant House Captains work closely with the Houseparents and house staff to ensure that each student is supported and that guidance, supervision and advice is available at all times. The student leaders and the faculty assigned to each house also oversee 'prep' (study time) each weeknight.

House Activities

Often on the weekends, there are inter-house competitions. Students in these events represent their house in a series of artistic, athletic or academic competitions designed to further enhance the bonds between house members.  Occasionally these events will culminate with a house barbeque, a late night bowling outing, camping or some other kind of house activity.  At Brentwood, students cherish their boarding experience; parents are comforted by the detail of concern and care provided to their children by a faculty that participates fully in the boarding life programme.

Eight Boarding Houses

Brentwood is proudly co-educational and our boarding community reflects this with a ratio that is 50% female and 50% male.  There are 4 boys’ houses (Privett, Rogers, Whittall and Ellis) and 4 girls’ houses (Alex, Allard, Hope and Mackenzie).  The sizes of the houses vary; the largest is 56 and the smallest is 24.  Almost all the dorms (rooms) are doubles.
