Dancing at Brentwood

Choreography

This course will cover all aspects of creating a piece of choreography. From music choice to use of space, pattern and direction to dance content, even lighting and costume. Performance by self or chosen dancer(s) will take place in 2nd and 3rd terms, both at school and in the community. Must be registered in Advanced Dance and accepted by invitation.

Junior Dance on stage

Experienced Junior Dance

This fast-paced class focusing on technique, both classical and modern, is for young students entering the programme with secure dance training. Festival and school performances being the focus, the dancers can expect to broaden their vocabulary and strengthen their technique.

Preforming Dance at the TGB

Advanced Dance

A fast-paced class focusing on technique and strength development. Varied styles to be incorporated through workshops and teacher and/or student directed choreography. Students may gain experience in the creative process of choreography either in a solo setting or within small groups. An emphasis on performance will follow throughout the year. Some dance history may be included.

Intermediate Dance

Intermediate Dance

This course encourages dancing for fitness and pleasure by exposing students to basic jazz and modern dance techniques incorporating stretching and strengthening techniques within the warm-up. Students will have an opportunity to practice and perform choreography prepared by the instructor and/or student choreographers.

Ballet

Classical training is available as an extra-curricular activity during the evening through Steps Ahead BC. The Royal Academy of Dance syllabi are offered at most grade and vocational levels by highly qualified and experienced faculty. Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop class focuses on style and co-ordination routines that will teach core strength, rhythm and funk. The fundamentals of popping, boogaloo and locking built into combination routines use body isolation and intricate moves focusing on the selected genre. Each class is progressive-building on the prior ones. This programme is held throughout the year on sports afternoons in the old dining room which has a sprung floor for safety.
