Meet the Admissions Team
Director of Admissions
Seeking a change of pace after teaching for six years on a tiny island in the Bahamas, Mr. Johnston and his wife, Kate, moved to Brentwood in 1994 and have lived on campus ever since. A graduate of McMaster University (Bachelor of Arts) and the University of Toronto (Master of Divinity and Bachelor of Education), Mr. Johnston has served as an assistant houseparent (Privett), houseparent (Rogers), teachers of philosophy and humanities, head basketball coach, Director of Residence, and Director of Campus Life. In 2006, he was appointed Director of Admissions. Regardless of his job description, Mr. Johnston has remained loyal to his great passion: helping Brentwood to grow as a giving and caring community of future leaders and stewards. Mr. Johnston finds joy in the company of his wife, his two daughters, their menagerie of animals, and his beloved guitars.
Crystal is a Brentwood graduate, former teacher, coach and Assistant Houseparent. While her 15 year career in education has taken her to other independent and day schools in British Columbia, she could not wait to return to the warm climate of Vancouver Island and the spectacular oceanfront campus that makes Brentwood so unique.
As a parent with a vested interest in seeking a world class education for her own children, Crystal is excited to share the details of Brentwood’s innovative approach to learning, university preparatory program and its safe, caring and nurturing boarding environment.
Crystal received her BSc in Geography and teaching certification from the University of Victoria. She spends her time actively involved in sports and activities with her husband and three children.
Louise hails from Glasgow Scotland and came to Canada 18 years ago, first to Yellowknife for almost 9 years and then to the island. She has enjoyed both locations and cultures enormously. She lives in Shawnigan Lake with her husband and Jack Russell, Lola, and enjoys gardening, reading, cooking and her many siblings dotted around the world. Louise has been in the Admissions engine room for a few years now – to add to his many talents her boss, Clayton, has become fully bilingual in the Glasgwegian dialect in order to understand her!
Originally coming from Ireland and England, with a background in working and caring for children from the cradle up, Lorraine worked in many areas from catering to office work, day care to Teacher’s Assistant. Lorraine lived in Ontario for three years before moving to Vancouver Island with her family. Lorraine lives locally with her husband and children, four still at home. Like all staff at Brentwood, Lorraine is passionate about education and encouraging the students in our care to take advantage of all that we have to offer, in the hope that we help prepare them to ‘take on the world’ when they leave us.
Lorraine worked on Brentwood Reception for 3.5 years before moving into the Admissions Department two years ago.
