Choosing Brentwood

Prospective students choose Brentwood because we are unique in our approach and devotion to preparing students for the future. Preparing for university life can be a challenge and Brentwood’s holistic preparatory curriculum helps students bridge the gap between high school and university.

Brentwood is a popular choice with international and American families because we offer a Canadian boarding experience with a small and diverse international community. This year 70% of our students are Canadian, another 8% are American, and the remaining 22% come from over 30 countries around the world. With students from six continents and diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, Brentwood offers a comprehensive orientation process and Boarding Life Initiative to help new students adjust very quickly to life on campus. We have a strong tradition, a proven track record and a strong residential life program, all blending seamlessly into our progressive approach to educating our students. The school brings together a varied mix of students from diverse backgrounds to create a unique and empowering community of learning.

The school is a very accepting and inclusive environment. I like that it is not bound by too much formality. A school like Brentwood allows students to celebrate their strengths and differences. - current Brentwood parent

Thank you for your visit to the admissions section of our website.
Throughout the pages of this website you will begin to realize what makes Brentwood so special to so many people around the world. It is not just the natural beauty of our setting nor is it the unique nature of our tripartite program that sets us apart. It is really about the scale of attention and care that our staff gives to each and every student at our school. This fundamental relationship begins on the very first day of your visit to our school and it continues long after you graduate.

Academically, we prepare students for university. All applicants must have the potential to study a rigorous university preparatory curriculum in English as the language of instruction. All of our graduates aspire to continue their education beyond high school. Brentwood, however, offers much more than academic challenge. All students are also involved in athletics and the arts as co-curricular programs. A typical Brentonian may be a rower who sings in the spring musical, a rugby player who throws ceramic pots, an actor who loves racquet sports, or a pianist who paints and plays hockey. Effort and enthusiasm are valued as much as natural talent or experience.

Thanks again for your visit to Brentwood College School. If you think that Brentwood may be a fit for you and you are ready to explore the boarding school experience, please call to arrange a visit to our oceanfront campus. We would love to tell you more about our programmes. As admission to our school is competitive, applications should be made as early as possible in the preceding year of entry. Best wishes in your school search! We look forward to hearing from you.

The Boarding Experience

Boarding school graduates attend the best universities in Canada, the United States, and around the world. Studies have shown that boarding school graduates not only excel at some of the leading universities in the world but also advance rapidly in their professional careers and are more engaged than their peers in the issues affecting our broader society.

Boarding schools provide a rigorous academic program and extra learning support. Small class sizes, collaborative learning environments, the latest technology, and great teachers all contribute to the best educational experience for students.

Boarding schools provide strong co-curricular programs. Students benefit greatly from staying active. The boarding school environment exposes them to countless sports, co-curricular, and leadership programs. Many of the opportunities include travel to other parts of Canada.

Students establish life-long friendships at CAIS boarding schools. Students are immersed in a setting that promotes friendship, support, and the shared experience. When you live where you study, you develop friends for life.

Boarding schools offer students the opportunity to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and leadership. Students are challenged to take risks and be responsible for their actions. When immersed in a safe and nurturing environment, students develop strong characters and become successful global leaders.

Canada is known as an environment where different perspectives are respected and learning together is encouraged. British Columbia in particular is recognized internationally as one of the best places in the world to live and to study (UN Development Programme, 2010). As a Canadian school we offer many advantages for our American and international students who are seeking entrance into the top US and international post-secondary institutions. We find our applicants stand out because of their international experience and the reputation of our school. Brentwood’s Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum and the unparalleled diversity of our arts and sports programmes are also differentiators with US and international destinations. Top universities in the US and around the globe know Brentwood and the quality of our graduates’ application portfolios.

American Students

Brentwood has a long tradition of educating American students. We have the largest American student population in Canada (8% of our student population) and there is good reason for this. American families admire our success in US college placement, the international experience, the quality of a Brentwood education, and the safety of our community.

Americans may also be interested in knowing that increasingly US colleges and universities waive the SAT exam (even to Americans studying at Brentwood) for international students. Finally, the feedback we get from American post-secondary institutions is that Brentwood students are very well prepared for college and because of this, they stay in college.

International Students

This year's enrollment reflects our typical student demographics. 70% of students at Brentwood are Canadian, another 8% are American, and the remaining 22% are from over 30 countries around the world. International families and students are enthusiastic to be gaining a truly Canadian experience. As well, our international student body is diverse. Since our students come from six continents and from every possible ethnic, cultural, and linguistic background, Brentwood offers a unique orientation process and boarding life programme to help students adjust very quickly to life on campus. Brentwood is pleased to offer international families a truly unique university-preparatory programme with a global reputation and recognition.

Post-Secondary Opportunities

Brentwood graduates are presented with many post-secondary options thanks to our highly experienced University Counselling Team. Our team has established an international reputation by developing strong relationships with post-secondary admissions departments, parents, students, and Brentwood graduates. Brentwood is renowned for its exceptional record of quality university placement thanks to our highly experienced University Counselling Team and our US University Counsellor. The counselling process begins at the end of Grade 10 and carries right through to graduation and beyond. The outcome of this process and partnerships is 100% university acceptance rate. Approximately 80% of our graduates are accepted to their first choice of university.

Recent graduates can be found in Canada, the US, the UK, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand and France attending schools such as Harvard, St. Andrews, MIT, Oxford, Queens, McGill, UCLA, and UBC.
